Platform Overview

Bafang Mid-Drive Power for the Trail

The eMTB platform is built around the Bafang M620 mid-drive motor system — a torque-sensing unit that delivers up to 160 Nm of assist through the drivetrain rather than a hub. This means the motor works with your gears, not against them, providing natural-feeling power delivery on technical climbs and precise modulation on descents. Available as a hydroformed hardtail or a four-bar full-suspension chassis with 190 mm of rear travel, the platform adapts from cross-country efficiency to enduro-capable geometry. To date, over 7,000 units have shipped to specialty bike distributors across Europe, North America, and Oceania.

Spec Your eMTB Build

The eMTB segment demands precision component specification — your customers compare groupsets, suspension travel, and geometry numbers. Our platform is modular at every decision point, letting you position your brand from entry-level trail to high-performance enduro.

  • Suspension configuration — hardtail with 120 mm air fork or full-suspension with DNM 190 mm rear shock
  • Motor tuning — EU 250W nominal with 25 km/h cutoff, US 750W Class 3, or off-road 1000W unrestricted
  • Battery cell brand — Samsung 35E, LG M50LT, or Panasonic NCR18650GA high-drain cells
  • Wheel size — 27.5-inch for agility and acceleration or 29-inch for rollover and stability
  • Drivetrain groupset — Shimano Altus 8-speed, Deore 10-speed, or SLX 12-speed with clutch derailleur
  • Dropper seat post — KS ExaForm or X-Fusion Manic with internal cable routing
  • Tire specification — Maxxis Minion DHF/DHR or Schwalbe Magic Mary with tubeless tape and valves
  • Paint finish — matte clear coat, gloss metallic, or full custom graphics with UV-stable clear lacquer
Certifications

Dual Certification for Global Markets

The eMTB platform is one of the few in our catalog carrying both EN 15194 and UL 2849 certification simultaneously. This means a single frame platform can be homologated for both European and North American markets — saving you duplicate tooling and certification costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

A mid-drive motor like the Bafang M620 delivers power through the bike's drivetrain rather than directly to the wheel hub, meaning the motor works with your gears — not against them. This provides three critical advantages on trails: first, the motor maintains peak torque at low wheel speeds by using lower gears on steep climbs, delivering up to 160 Nm of assist where a hub motor would stall. Second, the centralized mass keeps the bike's center of gravity low and balanced, improving handling on technical descents. Third, removing the motor from the rear wheel allows standard quick-release hubs and tubeless tire setups without special tools. The trade-off is roughly $120–180 higher unit cost compared to an equivalent-power hub motor system.

Upgrading from a hardtail (RST Aerial 120 mm air fork only) to a full-suspension chassis with the DNM 190 mm rear shock adds approximately $180–250 per unit at the FOB level, depending on the rear shock specification. The full-suspension frame adds roughly 3–4 kg in chassis weight but transforms the bike's capability on technical terrain — it absorbs square-edge hits at speed, maintains rear tire traction on loose climbs, and reduces rider fatigue on long descents. For brands building an enduro or all-mountain model, the full-suspension configuration is the standard. For cross-country and urban hardtail builds, the hardtail option saves weight and cost while simplifying maintenance.

The Bafang M620 motor is supplied with a firmware configuration that limits continuous nominal output to 250W for EN 15194 compliance in the EU market, while the motor's peak output — available for short bursts during hard acceleration or steep climbs — can reach 500W–1000W depending on the firmware variant selected. The 250W nominal rating means the motor can sustain 250W output over a 30-minute period under test conditions, which satisfies EU type-approval requirements. Speed cutoff is programmed at 25 km/h with assist phasing out progressively, not abruptly. For non-EU markets, we offer firmware variants with higher power limits and 32–45 km/h cutoffs. The same motor hardware serves all configurations — only the controller programming differs.

Procurement Guide

Ordering This Model

  • Packaging & Container Load — Each eMTB is packed in a 7-layer export carton (152 x 24 x 78 cm) with reinforced corners and high-density EPE foam cradles protecting the frame, fork, and derailleur. The front wheel, pedals, and handlebar are removed and packed in separate compartments within the same carton. A 20GP container accommodates approximately 90 assembled units or 130 SKD units. A 40HQ fits up to 210 assembled or 300 SKD units. All shipments include silica gel desiccant packs for ocean freight humidity protection. Full-suspension models ship with the rear shock in a locked-down position to protect seals during transit.
  • Payment Terms — Standard terms are T/T 30% deposit with order, 70% against scanned B/L copy before shipment. For orders exceeding $45,000, we accept irrevocable L/C at sight. Sample orders are payable 100% in advance via T/T or Alibaba Trade Assurance. For annual contracts with quarterly shipments exceeding 200 units, we offer T/T 20% deposit with 80% net 30 days.
  • Sample Policy — A single eMTB sample built to your chosen specification is available at 1.2x the FOB unit price plus air freight (approximately $320–480 to Europe or North America via DHL/FedEx, 5–7 business days). The sample cost is fully credited against the first bulk order of 50 units or more. Custom paint and decal samples require a $300 artwork setup fee, refundable on the first production order. We recommend ordering two samples — one for ride testing and one for showroom display — at a combined 2.0x FOB.
  • Warranty & After-Sales — Standard warranty: 24 months on the frame (including suspension linkage bearings), 18 months on the Bafang motor and controller, 12 months or 1,000 charge cycles on the battery, and 12 months on the suspension fork and rear shock (seals and bushings excluded as consumables). Warranty claims are processed within 5 business days with photographic or video evidence. Every container shipment includes a spare parts kit at 1.5% of order value: Shimano derailleur hanger, brake pads (2 pairs), inner tube, tubeless sealant bottle, and a 4A fast charger. Extended motor warranty to 36 months is available at $45–65 per unit.
