Geared hub: internal planetary gears reduce motor RPM, best for flat/slight hills, freewheels with no drag, lightweight, 250W–750W range, $45–90 FOB at 500 units. Direct-drive hub: no gears, larger diameter, regenerative braking capable, heavier, 500W–3000W, $65–160 FOB. Mid-drive: drives through bike chain, best for steep terrain, uses gear ratios, 250W–1000W nominal, $120–350 FOB. We recommend geared hub for city/commuter, direct-drive for cargo/fat-tire/high-speed, mid-drive for mountain/performance.
Motors: 500 units per winding/voltage SKU. Controllers: 200 units per model. Matched motor+controller kits count as single SKU at 500-unit MOQ. Custom winding specification, axle length, or connector type: no MOQ surcharge but +7–10 days lead time. Custom motor casing color or laser-engraved branding: $0.80–1.50/unit, setup fee $200.
Sine wave FOC controller: quieter operation, smoother torque delivery, 5–8% more range vs square wave. Highly recommended for all markets — adds $8–15/unit. Regenerative braking: recovers 5–10% energy in city stop-start riding, useful for cargo and high-speed scooters. CAN bus communication: enables smart display integration, OTA firmware updates, fleet telematics — adds $12–18/unit. Bluetooth module: rider app connectivity for speed/power tuning — adds $15–22/unit. Waterproof potted controller (IP65): essential for off-road, fat tire, and wet-climate markets — adds $5–8/unit.
